About Minecraft Server Status Checking
Our free Minecraft server status checker lets you quickly verify if any Minecraft server is online and accessible. Whether you're a server owner monitoring uptime, a player checking if your favorite server is available, or troubleshooting connection issues, this tool provides instant, accurate information.
How Server Status Works
When you query a Minecraft server, our tool sends a status request to the server's address and port. The server responds with information including its online status, player count, version, MOTD (Message of the Day), and other metadata. This is the same protocol the Minecraft client uses when displaying servers in your server list.
What You Can Check
- Online/Offline Status - Instantly see if the server is accepting connections
- Player Count - See how many players are online and the maximum capacity
- Server Version - Check the Minecraft version the server is running
Common Use Cases
Server Owners
Monitor your server's uptime and accessibility from an external perspective. Verify that your server is reachable by players after configuration changes or restarts.
Players
Check if your favorite server is online before launching the game. See current player count to find the best time to play or check if friends are online.
Troubleshooting
Diagnose connection issues by verifying if the problem is with your client or the server itself. Check if the server is running the expected version.
Server Discovery
Preview server information before connecting. View the MOTD, player count, and version to decide if a server meets your needs.
Community Managers
Monitor server status to communicate with your community about downtime or maintenance. Share accurate player counts for events.
Developers
Test server configurations and verify that your server is properly responding to status queries. Debug networking and firewall issues.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my server show as offline?
There are several reasons: the server may be down, the address may be incorrect, a firewall may be blocking queries, or the server may have status queries disabled. Check your server configuration and ensure port 25565 (Java) or 19132 (Bedrock) is accessible.
Can I check servers behind proxies like BungeeCord?
Yes, you can check the proxy server's status. The information returned will be from the proxy, showing the combined player count and the proxy's MOTD, not individual backend servers.
Why don't I see the player list?
Server owners can configure whether to show the player list in server.properties using the "hide-online-players" option. Some servers disable this for privacy or performance reasons.
How often is the status updated?
Each check queries the server in real-time. Results are cached briefly (typically 1-5 minutes) to reduce load on servers, but clicking Check will show the most recent cached data.
Do I need to include the port number?
For Java servers, the default port 25565 is assumed if not specified. For Bedrock, the default is 19132. Only include the port if your server uses a non-standard port (e.g., play.example.com:25566).
Is this tool free to use?
Yes, our Minecraft server status checker is completely free with no limits. Check as many servers as you need without creating an account or paying any fees.
