Why Host with Floodgate?

Without Floodgate, Bedrock players connecting through Geyser need to link a Java Edition account. Floodgate eliminates this requirement, allowing anyone with a Bedrock account to join directly. This dramatically lowers the barrier to entry for console and mobile players.

Server Requirements for Floodgate

Floodgate is lightweight and works alongside Geyser. We recommend 4-6GB RAM for servers running both Geyser and Floodgate. The authentication handling adds minimal overhead.

How Floodgate Works

Floodgate handles Xbox Live authentication for Bedrock players, creating unique server profiles without requiring Java accounts. Players appear with a prefix (configurable) to distinguish them from Java players.

Username Prefixes

By default, Bedrock players have usernames prefixed with a period or asterisk. This prevents username conflicts with Java players and clearly identifies crossplay users. The prefix is fully configurable.

Permission Integration

Floodgate integrates with permission plugins, allowing you to manage Bedrock player permissions just like Java players. LuckPerms and similar plugins work seamlessly.

Skin Support

Bedrock player skins transfer through Floodgate, so crossplay users appear with their chosen skins. Java players see Bedrock skins correctly rendered.

Form-Based GUIs

Floodgate enables Bedrock-specific UI features like forms and custom menus that would otherwise be unavailable. This improves the crossplay experience significantly.
