Sons of the Forest is Endnight Games' 2024 survival horror sequel to The Forest — crash-land on a remote island, build a base, explore terrifying cave systems, and survive the cannibal tribes that hunt you. Up to 8 players can co-op on a single world. Dedicated server support arrived post-launch via a standalone SteamCMD binary.
Our SotF template ships with the official dedicated server binary, expected ports opened, and a 7-day rolling backup retention. The game's save file structure is straightforward — one persistent world file per server — which means backup and restore are reliable. We auto-detect new Endnight patches and apply them on restart.
Performance is modest for the 8-player cap: 4–6 GB RAM handles a full session comfortably. CPU single-thread performance matters most — cave AI and base physics both run on the main thread. Our Ryzen 9 nodes keep ticks stable; budget hosts visibly hitch at 6-player mid-game bases.
