About the game

About Abiotic Factor

Abiotic Factor is a 2024 co-op survival game from Deep Field Games, set in a Half-Life-inspired subterranean research facility. After reality breaks and the site fills with anomalies, you and up to 5 other scientists must scavenge, craft weapons from office supplies, eat cafeteria food past its expiration date, and slowly piece together what went wrong — while dimensional horrors hunt you between the cubicles.

The game ships with an official dedicated server binary on Steam (installed via SteamCMD), which we deploy and tune automatically. Every Abiotic Factor instance we provision comes with the correct Game.ini defaults, opened UDP ports, and a day-night cycle scaled to a dedicated-server use case rather than the solo-game defaults.

Performance-wise, Abiotic Factor is light on RAM but moderate on CPU — the Unreal Engine 5 build handles physics and anomaly AI per connected player. Our 4 GB Starter plan runs a full 6-player server without issues; we recommend 8 GB if you're running multiple save slots or expect long uptimes where the world state grows. Crossplay is planned but not yet live — the game is PC-only on Steam at the time of writing.

What Abiotic Factor admins say

Setup was instant. I was uploading my world within two minutes of checkout.

Latency from the EU node is under 30ms for my whole squad. Zero rubber-banding even on intense sessions.

Support actually knows the games. Had a config issue resolved in 20 minutes at 2am.
Lena B.

Backups saved a 200-hour save after a mod broke it. One-click restore, worth the plan by itself.

Panel is miles better than what I was on before. I don't even miss SFTP.

Switching between games without paying again is the feature I didn't know I needed.

FAQs

Abiotic Factor hosting FAQs

How many players can an Abiotic Factor server host?+

6 players is the current cap. All our plans support the full 6-slot capacity; more RAM just means less chance of tick slowdown in late-game bases.

Is there crossplay?+

Not yet. Abiotic Factor is PC-only on Steam. Deep Field Games has mentioned crossplay as a roadmap item but no firm date has been announced.

Do I need a Steam account on the server?+

The server binary is anonymous-download via SteamCMD — no account required on the server side. Clients need to own the game on Steam, of course.

How do backups work?+

Every Abiotic Factor plan includes daily backups of the save directory. Restore to any point in the last 7 days with one click from the panel — ideal for the moments when an experimental time-bomb anomaly goes wrong.

Can I run mods?+

Full file access is standard. The Abiotic Factor modding scene is early but growing; you can drop community .pak files in via the in-browser file manager or SFTP.

How much CPU does the server need?+

Single-thread performance matters more than core count. Our Ryzen 9 7950X / 7950X3D nodes have among the highest single-thread scores of any CPU shipping, which keeps tick rates stable even with multiple anomaly AIs active.
